I’m not going to dive too deep into this because there’s only so much I can say on this topic without sounding overly biased.
Why choose Amazon KDP in 2024 and beyond?
I’ve made and lost money in quite a few different online ventures including e-commerce, affiliate marketing, Amazon FBA, Merch by Amazon, Etsy, and blogging.
I’m just going to cut to the chase here and tell you that Amazon KDP is the closest passive income source I’ve had aside from Merch by Amazon and Content sites. I’m not going to get into the latter two since the focus of this article is on Amazon KDP.
If you don’t want to deal with managing inventory for physical goods or dealing with customer service, Amazon KDP is definitely one of the best online income models available now.
I will continue running my Amazon KDP business for as long as Amazon keeps this particular model around. I don’t think the market for both e-books and physical books is going anywhere.
The Things I Like Most About Amazon KDP
I’m all about having freedom and flexibility. So I choose things that allow me to have a lifestyle where I can travel, work where and when I want, and spend time with friends and family.
Amazon KDP gives me this degree of freedom. Once a book is published, I don’t have to do much as the whole process is pretty much automated. That’s why I say this is probably the most passive business model there is right now.
You can choose to make Amazon KDP a side hustle or your primary business. These days it’s been more of a side hustle as I also have other projects I’m working on.
The Things I Dislike About Amazon KDP
Because I publish Fiction and rely on the majority of my royalties to come from the KENP Exclusivity agreement which basically gives Amazon full rights to my books unless opted out of. In short, if I want to make money from pages read, I agree to this exclusivity contract. To get out of this agreement, you will need to wait 90 days (if you were enrolled in KDP Select). How I Found Karla Marie and the Fiction Profits Academy Course
Like everyone else these days, I found out about Karla’s Fiction Profits Academy course on YouTube. This was back in 2016 when the course was still fairly new. I saw that some of her students were making a few thousand dollars a month and I thought that this would be the perfect way to get out of the 9-5 and start my entrepreneurial path.
Karla is a fellow Canadian from West Coast Canada. During that time another guy named Stefan Pylarinos had a course out, but I opted for Karla’s instead.
Fiction Profits Academy is focused solely on publishing Fiction books. The majority of the students publish in the Romance genre, but there are a few who also write in other areas such as Cozy Mystery. But since Amazon has such a huge audience for Romance, most Fiction Profits Academy students produce books in Paranormal, Western, Historical, Clean, and Contemporary romance.
My Personal Experience with Fiction Profits Academy (FPA Academy)
As mentioned earlier, I’m one of the earlier students. Back then the course looked very different than how it does now. The main principles are still there, but the course has improved and is a lot easier to follow. We are now in the 4.0 version of the course (it has gone through 4 iterations).
Fiction Profits Academy 4.0 will take a beginner and walk them through each step from mindset to hiring writers to publishing their first book.
If you’re wondering if the course is worth it. My answer is yes, without hesitation. As I mentioned before I built and sold a KDP business, I later decided to do it again and now use KDP as a side hustle that gives me the freedom and flexibility lifestyle I’ve always wanted.

Above is a screenshot of the royalties I made on one book that I published in 2022. It continues to bring in a few bucks each month. Remember that once you have a book created, you own it. It’s an asset that can continue to pay you even months after being published.
Fiction Profits Academy – Not just a course but a community
Once you’ve joined the course, you have access to a very active Facebook group.
There are a wide variety of students, from publishers who make six figures a month to those who are still publishing their first book.
The admins are also coaches who have succeeded with their online publishing business and you have access to them as a resource in both the Facebook group and one one-on-one calls.

Comparison of Fiction Profits Academy to Other Courses
There are only two courses out there that I would recommend. Fiction Profits Academy focuses solely on publishing Fiction books, whereas the other course Royalty Hero focuses on Non-Fiction books.
I’ve met people in both communities who are successful students and publishers. Below are some students from Sean Dollwet’s Royalty Hero course. You can find Sean’s videos all over YouTube.
You will find other people “reviewing” these courses in your Google Search, but bear in mind that they’re usually just pushing their own course. This is one of the reasons why I decided to create my own review, giving you a perspective from someone who has actually taken the course they’re giving feedback on. No need to be persuaded by their promises to riches through lead gen sites or dropshipping courses. Focus on Amazon KDP while it’s still hot.
Is Karla Marie’s Fiction Profits Academy a Scam? Is it Legit?
Short answer is no to scam. And yes it is legit. Everything I’ve learnt has allowed me to build a six figure business and continues to generate income for me and many other students.
Is Fiction Profit Academy Worth the Price?
It depends on whether you’re serious or not about creating an online business. Everything in the course will take you from Step A to Z. In addition there is a very tight community that will help you along the way. The course includes one on one calls with a coach if you need as well.
Do I need to Write my Own Books?
No. I don’t write my own books. You will learn how to find, vet, and hire writers to write your books.
Final Thoughts and Next Steps
There’s more criticism about this course than there is positive feedback when you search for reviews on the FPA program. Most of this “feedback” is coming from people who haven’t even taken the course or just didn’t put the work in.
